Unsigned typed letter, one page, 8.5 x 11, October 10, 1939. Letter to his estranged mistress, Miss Carlotta Douglas (Carlotta Monti), in New York City, in part: "I am in receipt of your letter where you claim you have won the bet that the world would be at war by 1940. While the time is a bit premature and to my mind the world is not at war as yet, however, the days of chivalry are not over and I shall, as you suggest, pay off the bet at the rate of $25.00 per week until Christmas." In very good to fine condition, with light creasing. Carlotta Monti would later author a best-selling memoir, W. C. Fields & Me, published in 1971.
