Partly-printed DS, signed “James Brown,” one page, 8 x 10, December 30, 1853. Stock certificate issued to Frederick P. Flagler for two shares in capital stock of the Peekskill Academy, signed at the conclusion by James Brown as president. The certificate features a fine vignette of the school's building. In fine condition. Founded in 1833 as a military academy for young men, the school closed in 1968 due to a decline in enrollment and lack of endowment. Notable alumni include actor Lee Marvin, actor Guy Williams, banker Sandy Weill, and writer L. Frank Baum.
