Mortgage bond certificate for the Kentucky Mineral and Timber Company in the amount of $1,000, signed at the conclusion by Ryan as the company's secretary. Also signed on the reverse by Brayton Ives as a trustee. The crisp uncanceled bond retains 30 warrant coupons on the adjoining sheet. In fine condition.
Thomas Fortune Ryan (1851-1928) was an American tobacco, insurance, and transportation magnate whose fortune began in public transit with New York streetcars; his most profitable endeavors were in tobacco, merging his Union Tobacco Company into the American Tobacco Company in the 1890s. Brayton Ives (1840-1914) was president of Northern Pacific Railway from 1893 to 1896 and also served two terms as president of the New York Stock Exchange.
