Mortgage loan bond carrying a 7% rate guaranteed by the State of South Carolina, signed on the reverse by Henry Clews and two other trustees. The certificate features vignettes of allegorical figures and a nice railway scene. In fine condition. Clews (1834-1923) was a British-American financier and author who served as an economic consultant to President Ulysses Grant.
