Accomplished in graphite and colored pencil on untrimmed 12 x 10 animation paper. Image measures 7.5 x 6. In fine condition, with a central vertical fold. The Old Mill was a pioneering Silly Symphony cartoon which served as a proving ground for innovative animation techniques—such as a multiplane camera, complex lighting effects, and the rotation of objects—that would be incorporated in the production of Disney's feature-length films, such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Bambi. The Old Mill won the 1937 Academy Award for Best Short Subjects: Cartoons.
