Four medallions containing flown metals: an Apollo 8 aluminum medallion, 1.5″ diameter, the first issued by the Manned Flight Awareness program, features profiles of the three-man crew with reverse inscription stating “The Apollo 8 crew carried metal in this medallion on man’s first flight to the Moon”; and Apollo 11 Manned Flight Awareness medal, 1.25″ diameter, with Aldrin on the lunar surface, “contains metal from spacecrafts Columbia and Eagle, that took astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins on their historic Apollo 11 mission that resulted in the first landing of man on the Moon”; an Apollo 14 silver mini-coin, 1/2″ diameter, with Franklin Mint certificate; and NASA’s uncommon 25th anniversary medallion, 1.5″ diameter, containing metal from Columbia’s STS-5 mission in 1982, issued by Space Flight Awareness for presentation to the shuttle ground crew.
