Civil War-dated partly-printed DS, signed “Milton Smith,” one page, 8.5 x 4.25, September 9, 1863. Receipt declaring that a citizen has paid the $300 bounty during the war to avoid serving, in part: "Received…from Elmer Green who was drafted into the service of the United States…the sum of Three Hundred (300) Dollars, to obtain…discharge from further liability under that draft." In very good to fine condition, with light creasing, and three vertical folds.
