Interestingly, the exciting action shot used on this card is a reimagining of history—it shows Pope leaping as high as he can to make a catch against the outfield wall. It is based on a photograph from the 10th inning of Game 1 of the 1954 World Series, which had been preceded by Willie Mays's immortal catch; in reality, Pope's leap came up short, and Dusty Rhodes's walk-off three-run homer landed in the first row. Here, the artist has thoughtfully repositioned the ball into Pope's glove.
