Description

Two TLSs from Lyndon B. Johnson, both signed "L.B.J.," both one page, 7 x 8.75, personal letterhead, addressed to Ken Browne. The earlier letter, dated February 11, 1972: "Just a note to assure you that I have appreciated all your letters since I left the White House, but none more than the heartwarming one written after our loss of Senator Hayden. He was one of Arizona's and America's best and I wouldn't have missed coming to say goodbye"; the second letter, July 21, 1972: "I appreciate your generous words about my years of public service and hope someday Mrs. Johnson and I get back to your part of the country. In overall fine condition, with staple holes to the upper left corners. Accompanied by an editorial cartoon sent to, and returned by, Johnson in July 1972, a funeral program for Senator Carl Hayden, which lists tributes by Johnson and Barry Goldwater, and the two original mailing envelopes, both of which bear Johnson's preprinted franking signature.
