Massachusetts soldier (1739-1817) and captain of a company of minutemen who answered the Lexington alarm in April 1775; he went on to serve as an officer in the Continental Army and the Massachusetts Militia through 1779. Third-person autograph manuscript DS, one page, 6.5 x 2.25, June 14, 1778. Payment receipt issued from Winter Hill, made out entirely in Gerrish's hand, in full: "Colo. Jacob Gerrish, Mess. to James Fairfield, Jr., For Sundries Deliver'd out of the States Store, From May 1778 to June 1778. £ My. 6.6.0." Included is a letter addressed to "Capt. Jacob Gerrish" by Eliphalet Poor from Prospect Hill, requesting remuneration for Nathan Plumer, dated September 28, 1775. In fine condition.
