Description

Two items: a glossy 8 x 10 photo of Mancini leaning against a tree with his arms folded, signed and inscribed in black felt tip, "To Walt, Henry Mancini"; and a TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, August 6, 1986, addressed to Walter Weisfogel, in part: “As to your question concerning the song ‘Phone Call to the Past,’ it was originally written for the film Gunn No. 1. It was an instrumental piece called ‘Theme for Sam.’ Johnny Mercer likes it and wrote the lyric. I think it is an excellent lyric myself.” Under his signature, Mancini has added a two bar AMQS for the song. In overall fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. After being used as the theme song for the Peter Gunn television series, which earned Mancini an Emmy and two Grammys, 'Phone Call to the Past,' or 'Theme for Sam,' soon entered the pop culture canon when it was featured in the popular 1980 film, The Blues Brothers.
