Engraved presidential invitation to the White House, 5.25 x 2.5, reading: "The President and Mrs. Lincoln. At home, Tuesday Evening, March 1, 1864, From 9 until 12 o'clock." In fine condition, with a tiny chip to the upper left corner. On this day, President Lincoln submitted the nomination papers for Grant's promotion to lieutenant general to the Senate; that evening, the Lincolns entertained members of Congress and their families at the Executive Mansion.
