Description

Impressive collection of four bolts of the ivory-colored lace used for Princess Diana's bridesmaids' dresses, measuring 5.5″ wide, annotated "17.4 M" at the top of the three cardboard bolts (true length unmeasured). One length of the lace is not wrapped around a cardboard bolt. In overall fine condition. The lace for the bridesmaids' dresses was produced by Roger Watson Laces and inspired by a flounce of Carrick-ma-Cross lace once been owned by Queen Mary that had been provided by the Royal School of Needlework. The authentic Queen Mary lace formed the central bodice of Diana's dress, and this lace it inspired was used for trim on Diana's dress and train, as well as extensively used for the bridesmaids' dresses. Accompanied by a page removed from the 2006 book A Dress for Diana by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, showing this lace during its production.
