Description

Complete issue of The Connecticut Courant from September 9, 1799, printed by Hudson and Goodwin, Hartford, four pages [two sheets, both sides], 12.25 x 19.75, which includes ads for bayonets by Abijah Peck and military officers' swords by David Greenleaf, and the text of an act passed by Congress, "An Act to regulate the collection of Duties on Imports and Tonnage." The pages are separated and individually encapsulated in mylar sleeves. In fine condition, with a few light stains and some chipping to the left edge. Founded in 1764, the Connecticut Courant (now Hartford Courant) is recognized as the oldest continuously published newspaper in the United States.
