Description

T. H. White

English author (1906–1964) best known for his Arthurian tetralogy The Once and Future King, which includes the popular story The Sword in the Stone. Wonderful collection of eight typed drafts of poems by White, each one page, 8 x 10, individually displayed in custom-made 11 x 13.5 presentation folders, with titles including: Time Fast and Time Slow; Le Commun Advenement; Reading Giraldus Cambrensis; Endurance Vile; To Myself, After Forty Years; After Seven Years; The Tower of Siloam; and The Choir Boy. In his own hand, White has added an approximate reading duration to each poem in the upper right in pencil, and has made additional notations to four examples: at the end of Le Commun Advenement, he adds: "This is about the Atomic Bomb. Which I sometimes think will be rather a good thing," with White striking through the latter line; on The Tower of Siloam: "All these are rather depressed on the whole I think bitter poems cheer you up"; at the close of After Seven Years: "This is after–love affair which went wrong, as they usually do"; and to the right side of Reading Giraldus Cambrensis, White adds several guide words relating to the cadence of the reading. The folders are housed in a handsome clamshell presentation box. In overall fine condition.
