Scarce flown American flag carried on Apollo 17, 5.5 x 4, affixed to a 10 x 8 mount along with a plaque reading, “This flag, which was carried in the Command Module on the Apollo 17 mission, is presented to Bonnie G. Holmes in appreciation for exemplary contributions to the success of the Apollo program.” Framed and in fine condition. Holmes was Dr. Wernher von Braun’s longtime trusted secretary; she was such an integral part of his office that the great rocket pioneer once introduced her as ‘the lady that I work for.’ Flags from the later Apollo missions are scarcer than those from earlier flights as fewer were flown; this scarcity, combined with the von Braun association, makes this a particularly desirable example.
