Description

Exceedingly rare World War I–era Harley-Davidson document

One of the four co-founders of Harley-Davidson (1870–1937) who oversaw most of the manufacturing. DS, signed “Wm. A. Davidson,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 8.5 x 11, July 8, 1918. An apprenticeship indenture document between William Happal, Jr., and the Harley-Davidson Motor Company in which they agree “to teach him the trade of Toolmaker…for a period of four years.” The following page outlines his compensation and duties during the apprenticeship program, including working with a milling machine, lathe and shaper, grinders and planers, and toolmaking. A tear to the edge of the first page and expected document wear, otherwise fine condition. A rare piece from very early in the iconic American company’s history. RR Auction COA.
