Influential jazz saxophonist (born 1930) who composed a number of jazz standards, including ‘Oleo’ and ‘Doxy.’ Two items: First, an ALS signed “S. R.,” one lightly-lined page, 8 x 12.25, no date. Letter to an admirer reads, in part: “I also heard jazz. The great Fats Waller was my early favorite. I heard a lot of music on the radio. Great jazz players. Louis Armstrong in some movies. Soon I knew what my life would be.” Second, a glossy 8 x 10 photo, signed and inscribed in black felt tip, “To Gary, Sonny Rollins, best wishes.” In fine condition. RR Auction COA.
