DS, signed “J. C. Calhoun,” one page, 8 x 9.75, July 23, 1819. Secretary of War Calhoun informs W. Kingsbury of his acceptance to West Point. In part: “You are appointed a cadet in the service of the United States—You will immediately notify this Department of your acceptance or non-acceptance: In case of the former, you will repair to West Point.” In good to very good condition, with heavy overall foxing and staining.
