Writing to Universal’s founder about his “wishes by means of moving picture to open up to mankind the beauty and mysteries of the ‘under seas world’”

ALS, one page, 9 x 6.75, January 11, 1939. Letter to Carl Laemmle. In part: “A pioneer in the development of the moving picture industry, which has given pleasure and education to millions of people throughout the world. From a pioneer in submarine navigation, who wishes by means of moving picture to open up to mankind the beauty and mysteries of the ‘under seas world’”; and a bank check, 6 x 2.75, filled out and signed by Lake, “Simon Lake Trustee,” payable to Arthur Gibbs for $181, March 31, 1937. In very good condition, with moderate areas of show-through toning from adhesive remnants to reverse of the letter (significantly affecting overall appearance). RR Auction COA.
