Football executive (1895–1959) who served as NFL commissioner from 1945 until his death. Five Philadelphia Eagles Pro Football Club payroll checks, 8.25 x 3, filled out in another hand and signed by Bell, “De Benneville Bell,” payable to different players for amounts ranging from $25 to $180, all dated 1939. The players, all of whom endorsed their check on the reverse, are Joe Bukant, Woody Dow, Elmer Kolberg, Allie White, and Clem Woltman.
