Letter to an unidentfied gentleman, headed at the top, “Private.” In part: “We are now windbound & likely to be so some time unless the Cainbrian were left to protect the Convoy and the Volontaire ordered to proceed immediately in which case we would sail directly without any further delay which would be a material thing for my brother [Louis Charles, Count de Beaujolais]…I sollicit this favour through you in a private way & I was the more induced to do it that I hear the convoy to be protected is but a small one & that there are in it 5 or 6 heavy loaded dull fellows who will greatly impede us if we are to travel in their company.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, and hinge of second integral page passing through end of signature. During the revolution, he emigrated to America and then to Britain with his brother, Louis Charles, Count de Beaujolais who had contracted tuberculosis in prison during the revolution and needed to live in a warmer climate.
