In part: “I am sorry that you are beginning to feel the oppressive influence of the south already. Although I have never been there any length of time, I have gathered innumerable evidences of its devastating spirit. I hope you will not be caught in its coils as many other well-intentioned people have been on going there. Thank you for your kind comment on Color; I wish I could get the whole south to read it. I never write my poems for the express purpose of pointing a moral, but I believe many of them have lessons which even biased southerners would profit by in reading them.” In fine condition, with central horizontal and vertical folds and some toning to lower right corner.
