Businessman (1792–1875) who invested in New York real estate; when he inherited his father wealth, he became the richest man in America. LS signed “Wm. B. Astor,” one page, 4.25 x 7, December 24, 1869. Letter to W. S. Chainley. In part: “I will give 92 for the $3500 of New Haven City 6% Bonds you offer that being the rate at which similar securities are selling here.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, the vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature, and some show-through from tape remnants to reverse.
