Description

Kennedy sends deep appreciation for a “kind expression of sympathy” after his sister’s tragic death

TLS signed “John F. Kennedy,” one page, 6.5 x 9, June 21, 1948, Congress of the United States, House of Representatives letterhead. In a letter of heartfelt thanks, Kennedy writes, in full: “It was very kind of you to write me. Certainly the support of friends is most helpful at this difficult time. I want you to know that I deeply appreciate your kind expression of sympathy.” Intersecting folds, a faint paperclip impression towards the top left corner, and some irregular adhesion to the signature, otherwise fine condition. On May 13, 1948, Kennedy’s sister Kathleen (Lady Hartington) was killed in a plane crash in France. This letter is undoubtedly referring to the tragic accident. RR Auction COA.
