Eight one-page TLSs, each signed “Jim” or “Jim C.,” dating from 1973 to 1978 (one undated), all written to his friend Jim Madden. One from 1973 reads in part, “I, of course, was quite surprised when they decided to give me the FIA [sic; he meant ‘AFI’] tribute. So I’ll put on my black tie come March and break out of the house for an evening.” A 1976 letter bears a handwritten postscript that reads, “Had a few moments of anxiety over diabetes but a controlled diet has taken care of the problem. No sugar!!!” A message on the reverse of a picture postcard reads in part, “The newspapers and TV made a great deal of what was really very little. My problem was merely Minnear’s Disease which, as you might know, has to do with the inner ear and a problem with balance. Had it back in the early 40’s and it didn’t come back until recently, but so it goes.” In overall very good to fine condition with scattered creases, wrinkles, and scattered staining. A wonderful selection of letters peppered with fascinating details. RRAuction COA.
