Confederate officer who, after his capture, refused to take the oath and was held a prisoner until October of 1865, when he finally signed the oath, with his fingers crossed. Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo by Gear’s Gallery of Art of New Haven, Connecticut, signed in black ink.
