Physician (1813-1889) who served in the medical corps of the United States Army during the Mexican–American War, and later as the Confederate surgeon general throughout nearly all of the Civil War. War-dated LS signed 'S. Moore, Surg Genl,' one page, lightly-lined, 7.5 x 9.75, Confederate States of America, Surgeon General’s Office letterhead, September 29, 1862. Letter to Dr. George Terrill. In part: 'Your communication of the 22nd enclosing your account of $90.00… has been received at this office. Before the account can be acted on, it must be made out in accordance with the requirements in such cases by stating the number and date of…the change for each visit made the sick soldiers.' In very good condition, with missing upper left corner, creasing, several small holes from ink erosion, and scattered soiling. An uncommon autograph, with great Civil War-era content. RRAuction COA.
