Description

The Elmira Express offers his take on Conrad’s Heart of Darkness

Star running back at Syracuse University; first black player to win the Heisman Trophy (1961); drafted by the Washington Redskins and traded to Cleveland but died the following year from leukemia before playing a pro game. A full page of Davis’ handwritten homework notes, signed “Ernie Davis” in black ballpoint, on a lined 8 x 11 sheet of paper removed from a spiral notebook. Davis has written notations on Joseph Conrad’s novel Heart of Darkness with over 40 words written in Davis’ hands. In part: “Marlow = now Kurtz when he was in bad shape, when he…was almost completely lost…Boy, in Bed is alone is False. Kurtz, is never alone in jungle.” In fine condition, with rough left edge, vertical fold, and faint edge toning. RRAuction COA.
