Description

Lunar Receiving Laboratory pipette used in experimenting on an Apollo 16 moon rock

Sealed glass pipette, measuring 13.5” long, with a thin band of tape around the center, with notations reading “A16 Rock, 61016.159, P60 A16II, June 7, 1973, .037 cc H(2).” Accompanied by a sheet of handwritten notes, headed at the top, “H2 Samples from Lunar Apollo 16 Pyrolysis-Combustion,” dated August 16, 1973, listing 17 different samples, with the sample for this particular pipette listed as number 8 on the sheet, indicating a rock sample from the Apollo 16 mission was combined with .037 centimeters of water for the experiment. Apparently the center bulge of this pipette held a piece of moon rock and was vaporized during the experiment. Center bears a small circular mark, perhaps from a Bunsen burner. RRAuction COA.
