LS signed “S. P. chase,” one lightly-lined page, both sides, 7.75 x 9.75, June 10, 1869. Writing from Raleigh, North Carolina as chief justice holding circuit court, Chase contacts General William H. Duncan concerning attending a celebration at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. In part: “President Smith has probably received my letter, promising to be at Hanover during the Centennial.” Intersecting folds, tear along the left side, and scattering soiling, otherwise fine condition.
