Description

Cyrus W. Field

American industrialist (1819–1892) who financed the first permanently operational transatlantic telegraph cable ALS signed “Cyrus,” one page, 8 x 9.75, December 1, 1835. At the age of 16, Field writes his father, the Rev. D. D. Field, a pastor in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, regarding a trip to New Orleans on which a friend was embarking. In part: “I went with him to the ship which was at anchor in the harbor, in a Steamboat, & then went on board & sailed 12 or 13 miles with him, when I was obliged to return in the boat.” Field has crossed out a few words as a means of correction. In very good condition, with several intersecting folds, two small areas of paper separation, scattered soiling, and light brushing to the signature. RRAuction COA.
