German military officer (1887–1973) regarded as one of the Nazis’ most skillful and successful field commanders. Tried in Hamburg for war crimes in 1949, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison (reduced to 12), served four years, and later became a military advisor to the West German government. TLS in German, signed “v. Manstein,” one page, 8.25 x 5.75, May 3. Untranslated letter to Mr. Uhle regarding his book and referring him to the publisher Bernhard and Graefe in Frankfurt. In fine condition, with a bisecting vertical fold, through a single letter of signature, a couple wrinkles, and two punch holes to left edge. RRAuction COA.
