Civil War general (1826-1911) most noted for a daring 1863 expedition through Confederate-held territory that severed enemy communication lines between Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Confederate commanders in the Eastern Theater. ALS, in pencil, signed “B. H. Grierson,” one page, 5.25 x 8, War Department letterhead, August 13, 1878. Telegraph letter to John C. Grimson, sent from Fort Conho. In full: “Charley & Robert started yesterday morning for Jacksonville via St. Louis.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, a mild shade of toning, and some scattered light soiling.
