Governor Shirley appoints a surgeon in the regiment of Colonel Ruggles

Colonial Governor of Massachusetts who played a prominent role in Britain’s struggle with France for control of North America. Scarce manuscript DS, signed “W. Shirley,” one page, 7.5 x 12.25, March 27, 1744. Shirley appoints Charles Pynchon as surgeon to the regiment of Colonel Timothy Ruggles. Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Shirley. Framed to an overall size of 9 x 13.75. Pynchon (1719-1783) of Springfield, Massachusetts was a surgeon engaged in the expedition against Crown Point. In good condition, with missing top left corner, separations along intersecting folds, scattered light toning and soiling, and a few edge chips. RRAuction COA.
