Menu for a dinner honoring Amelia Earhart at the South Shore Country Club on February 16, 1935, 6.25 x 9.25, signed in pencil on the front cover. The first interior page bearing a printed poem entitled Amelia Earhart by Alonzo Newton Benn honoring her presence at the club. The final stanza of the poem reads, “Amelia, your fair presence here does honor to us all, And when you fly high in the sky we’ll pray you ne’er fall; Nor matters it where you may be, On land or o’er the sea, We hope your thoughts may quite oft turn to old SSCC.” Earhart remained busy during 1935, becoming the first person to fly solo from Hawaii to the continental mainland, as well as completing a solo flight from Los Angeles to Mexico City on April 19, and becoming the first woman to participate in the 1935 Bendix Trophy Race, placing fifth overall.
