Description

Rudyard Kipling

TLS, one page, 8 x 10.25, Burwash, Etchingham, letterhead, August 4, 1926. Kipling writes to Major G. Benson-Scott, heading the letter “Private.” In full: “Many thanks for your letter, but what you so lightly indicated is a regular Epic, and a most fascinating one. Kingsley in ‘Westward Ho!’ has given a study of the end of the Armada which would take some beating, and I’m afraid I’m not the hand to give it to him….” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Westward Ho! was an 1855 British historical novel by Charles Kingsley, inspired in part by the Elizabethan travelogue by privateer Admiral Sir Richard Hawkins and by the Crimean War. Light intersecting folds (vertical fold to signature), and a few mild wrinkles and faint spots, otherwise fine condition.
