Pen name of the French novelist Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette (1873–1954), best known for such works as the Claudine series, La Chatte, and Gigi. ALS in French, one page both sides, 8.25 x 5.25, no date. Letter of thanks to Mrs. Charles Catruse for sent flowers. In part: “You remembered that I like colored pictures. Thank God I’m still easily amazed…And that Stuart Pea is so beautifully red, with a quantity of really cute little testicles. I’m having a good time. Thanks for having included the real flowers with their trace of life and their colors…for three nights I haven’t had any coughing spells.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Colette’s hand. Incidentally, Stuart’s Pea, a plant, is defined as “an erect soft stemmed perennial.” In fine condition, with small brush to Colette’s cramped signature and a bisecting vertical fold. RRAuction COA.
