Unusually cordial ANS signed “G. Bernard Shaw,” 7.25 x 11, September 10, 1939. Short and cordial note to E. A. Cross at the Colorado State College of Education, written at the bottom of a letter from Cross to Shaw, who had written to Shaw requesting permission to use a part of Pygmalion in an anthology he was preparing for use in high school. He was originally declined by Shaw, but wrote again explaining in more detail about his project, and requesting to use a quote from the response Shaw had sent originally in July, which was “Nothing can induce me to allow any book of mine to be used as a school book—I wan to be read and played in the United States, not loathed.” Shaw writes at the bottom, “You have my full permission. Forgive the delay in answering.” In fine condition, with intersecting mailing folds, one through a single letter of signature. RRAuction COA.
