George Cukor’s personal copy of the September 15, 1936 issue of The Red Barrel, 6.25 x 8.25, 28 pages. Inside bears an article written by Ralph McGill entitled “Gone With the Wind: The Story Behind the Story,” with Mitchell making several notations throughout the article. Mitchell writes, “Errors like this give me fits!,” and “This error burns me down entirely. I finished the book years ago.” Soon after David O. Selznick bought the rights to Mitchell’s novel, she began corresponding with Cuckor regarding the project. She sent this article expressing her outrage at the information in the article, including the book was only a series of ragged chapters when it was first shown to MacMillan agent H. S. Latham, and that she only wrote the book when the contract was signed. In fine condition, with a Cukor bookplate affixed to inside front cover, and some light handling wear and creasing.
