Charles Evans Hughes

Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court from 1930 to 1941. DS, signed “Charles E. Hughes,” one page, 10.5 x 16, May 21, 1908. Hughes, as governor of New York, signs a presentation of a fountain pen “used by me in signing Assembly Bill 811…An Act…ordering the improvement of certain streets in said city [Oswego] and directing the relaying of the assessments in payment therefore.” The actual pen is affixed below the letterhead. In very good condition, with overall toning, a bit heavier to edges, and some scattered light creasing. The blue seal is crisp and intact, with some light color loss. RRAuction COA.
