When Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945) delivered his acceptance speech at the 1932 Democratic National Convention, he declared to the generation of the Great Depression that it had a “rendezvous with destiny.” Suffice it to say, his New Deal heroics notwithstanding, we now note FDR as arguably the greatest leader this nation has ever known. Proudly offered is a period composite photograph signed by that esteemed personage. The 9.5 x 7 gem bears an attractive matte finish, and carries the legend, “Cruise with President F. D. Roosevelt, U.S.S. Houston” alongside handwritten notations of “July 1, 1934–Aug. 29, 1934.” Also featured is the signature of the ship’s tailor, one Henry Alent. In good condition, with staining, tears, and chips at upper left corner (affecting first few letters of signature), scattered light soiling, a few creases, and bleeding to Alent’s signature.
