Massachusetts lawyer (1731–1814) who served as one of the prosecutors of British soldiers during the Boston Massacre trial; he later signed the Declaration of Independence. Paine’s personally-owned and-signed book: A Vindication of Providence. London: 1747. Leatherbound hardcover with slipcase and custom clamshell box, 5 x 7.75, 110 pages. Signed at the top of the title page in black ink, “R. T. Paine 1759.” Book also bears a page and a half of notations in another hand on the first free end page.
