Description

Arnold Schönberg

Austrian-born composer (1874–1951) whose development of the twelve-tone system proved to be one of the most far-reaching innovations in the history of twentieth-century music. His earlier works include the influential expressionistic masterpieces,”Five Pieces for Orchestra” (1909) and “Pierrot Lunaire” (1912). Following his move to America in the 1930s, Schönberg became teacher to such notable figures as John Cage and tennis partner to George Gershwin, his mutual admirer. Early matte-finish 3.25 x 5.25 German postcard photo, signed in ink in the lower margin. A hint of subtle soiling, tiny corner crease, and small, faint rack impressions at corners (lightly touching first name), otherwise fine, crisp condition. RRAuction COA.
