Partly engraved DS as president, one page, 17.75 x 14, May 1, 1862. An appointment for E. S. Sayres as “Vice-Consul for Denmark, in and for the state of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia.” Countersigned by William H. Seward as secretary of state. The embossed seal remains intact at lower left. In very good condition, with intersecting folds (separations with archival repairs to reverse), small tears with archival repairs, faint toning from previous framing, and light wrinkling.
