Partly engraved DS as president, one page, 21 x 16, October 1, 1900. An appointment for Robert M. Barton as second lieutenant in the Squadron Philippine Cavalry, U.S. Volunteers. Countersigned by G. D. Meiklejohn as acting secretary of war. In good to very good condition, with scattered soiling and staining (mainly to margins; very slightly touching signature), light creases, and handling and edge wear.
