President of the Reichsbank in the Weimar Republic (1877–1970) and Reich Minister of Economics who played an instrumental role in German’s economic recovery between the wars. After denouncing anti-Semitic practices, calling for cutbacks in military spending, and allegedly participating in a plot to assassinate Hitler, he was dismissed from his position and placed in a concentration camp. Tried at Nuremburg, he was acquitted and later wrote a number of books. Signed FDC, 6.5 x 3.5, 1953, with a cachet honoring United Nations Human Rights Day, signed in ink. A hint of subtle toning, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
