ANS signed “J. A. Garfield,” on a printed 8 x 10 document requesting any desired changes to Garfield’s entry in the Official Congressional Directory, dated March 15, 1871. Garfield responds to “Dear Major.” In full: “I have made all the change I desire…. My residence is the same as in the last Edition.” A printed slip from the previous edition bearing a few handwritten changes is affixed at the bottom edge.
