Description

Robert E. Lee (1807-1870) was the celebrated general who commanded the Confederate army during the Civil War. His nephew, Fitzhugh Lee (1835-1905), was a Confederate cavalry general and a general during the Spanish-American War. In the interval between the two wars, Lee served as Governor of Virginia and Consul General at Havana. Bold ink signatures, “R. E. Lee” and “Fitzhugh Lee” on slightly irregular individual off-white slips evidently clipped from a ledger or register. Accompanied by a contemporaneous handwritten note explaining that the signatures were obtained at White Sulphur Springs, Virginia in September 1867. A hint of mild soiling and close trimming to a few letters, otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
