Meredith in Richmond, Virginia, heading the letter “Personal” and adding several handwritten corrections (shown in square brackets). In full: “I [ prefer] to stay in the district [but it is not necessary]. Gillespie has been recommended, and also Henry Clay McDowell. The latter has been in the district fourteen years, being by birth a Kentuckian. do you know them? I should like to find out about them at once. Can you [tell me] about them immediately?” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Matted and framed with a photo to an overall size of 15.5 x 12.5.
